  • Pervasive Software Reports Results for its Third Quarter of Fiscal Year 2006

AUSTIN, TEXAS – April 25, 2006 – Pervasive Software® Inc. (NASDAQ:PVSW), a global value leader in data infrastructure software, today announced financial results for the third quarter ending March 31, 2006. Revenue and earnings reported for the third quarter are in line with guidance previously provided for the quarter. The March quarter marks the company’s twenty-first consecutive quarter of profitability.

Revenue was $11.4 million for the third quarter of fiscal year 2006, compared to $12.4 million for the third quarter of last fiscal year. Net income was $0.4 million, or $0.02 diluted earnings per share, for the quarter, compared to net income of $1.0 million, or $0.04 diluted earnings per share, for the third quarter of last fiscal year. On a pro forma basis, as described below, Pervasive realized net income of $2.1 million, or $0.09 diluted earnings per share, in the third quarter of fiscal year 2006, compared to pro forma net income of $1.3 million, or $0.06 diluted earnings per share, in the third quarter of last fiscal year.

“I’m very proud of the profit culture that exists within Pervasive, and our year-over-year pro forma profitability growth and twenty-one consecutive quarters of profitability are a reflection of that culture,” said John Farr, president and chief executive officer for Pervasive. “We continue to believe that earnings and positive cash flows are the ultimate creators of shareholder value.”

Pervasive continued to generate positive cash flow from operations in the third quarter of fiscal 2006, ending the quarter with $42.8 million in cash and marketable securities and no debt, representing approximately $1.85 per issued and outstanding share.

    Business Outlook
For the fourth fiscal quarter ending June 30, 2006, Pervasive expects revenue to be in the range of $11.0 million to $12.0 million and GAAP-basis diluted earnings per share of $0.04 to $0.07. GAAP-basis profitability is expected to include amortization of purchased intangibles and stock-based compensation expense, together representing approximately $0.04 per share in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2006, resulting in pro forma diluted earnings per share, before amortization of purchased intangibles and stock-based compensation expense, of approximately $0.08 to $0.11, compared to pro forma diluted earnings per share of $0.09 for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2005.

Pervasive management believes that the pro forma results described in this release are useful for an understanding of Pervasive's ongoing operations because GAAP results include non-cash charges associated with the amortization of purchased intangibles, stock-based compensation expense and non-recurring management restructuring charges. Management uses these pro forma results to compare the company's performance to that of prior periods for analysis of trends, and to evaluate the company's financial strength, develop budgets, manage expenditures and develop a financial outlook. Pro forma results are supplemental and are not intended as a substitute for GAAP results.

  • Directive Corporation Leverages Pervasive Software Integration for Rapid Deployment of its Retail Data Mart Solution

AUSTIN, TEXAS – April 10, 2006 - Pervasive Software Inc. (NASDAQ: PVSW), a global value leader in data infrastructure software, today announced that Directive Corporation, a direct and interactive marketing services firm, has successfully implemented and deployed Pervasive Data Integrator and the PostgreSQL open source database. Directive uses Pervasive integration and database solutions for customer data integration (CDI) and large-scale customer database management. Through Pervasive's Data Integrator, customer data from a wide range of legacy systems, flat file structures and databases can be combined, structured, cleansed and output to Directive’s powerful marketing data mart. Customer data is standardized and remediated using Data Integrator’s comprehensive ETL functionality and then loaded into a flexible database structure built on PostgreSQL, with support by Pervasive.

Directive Corporation is using the comprehensive functionality of the Pervasive solution to strengthen its customer intelligence system, Marketing Data Mart. Pervasive Data Integrator’s ability to connect to hundreds of different source file formats gives Directive’s system the ability to map a variety of incoming file formats, and then perform a series of data hygiene and integration tasks as the customer information is moved to the data mart. Data Integrator calls objects from third-party vendors that standardize and ZIP+4 code the address, convert fields to mixed upper and lower case, verify area codes and standardize phone number formats, check for vulgar or nonsense names, de-duplicate names and addresses, assign latitude and longitude and calculate distance to the store and supports advanced predictive analytics. In most competing customer intelligence solutions, these crucial data integration tasks are handled by separate software applications, each carrying substantial cost. Embedding these as objects within Data Integrator allows one system to handle all integration steps at greatly reduced cost and processing time.

“We started the project with Pervasive on January 3, and completed it by March 6 – less than three months. Data Integrator is not only cost effective, but easy to use, virtually eliminating the need for custom coding to work with our customers’ data,” said Frederick Barber, chief operating officer, Directive Corporation. “We had the added benefit of being able to go to Pervasive for both our data integration and database needs for an innovative yet affordable solution for our mid market customers—clearly the best of both worlds.”

Chip Harmon, general manager, Integration Products, Pervasive Software said, “Pervasive is in the business of value leadership. What we were able to do for Directive with our embedded integration solution and PostgreSQL open source database support is value optimization at its best. The Pervasive solution does the work for companies like Directive better, quicker, easier and more affordably.”

“Our clients are seeing a clear ROI. One initial client, a West Coast furniture retail chain, has seen significant ROI from their original investment,” said Barber. For one new store grand opening, the Pervasive solution enabled Directive’s Data Mart to generate a return on investment of over 400% in a three-month period through a highly personalized direct mail offer.”

Exemplifying the ease of use, Directive was able to point to the new store’s data source and be fully functional with valid, deduplicated, clean data in less than 8 minutes versus a minimum of 8 hours.

Pervasive's technology leadership delivers a single, universal integration platform that allows its customers to re-use the same software for integration scenarios that span data warehouses, real time application integration and data exchange with trading partners. • U.S. Department of Defense Expands Use of Pervasive Software to Reduce Cost and Increase Supply Chain Efficiency

AUSTIN, TEXAS – April 3, 2006 - Pervasive Software Inc. (NASDAQ: PVSW), a global value leader in data infrastructure software, today announced that the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) has selected and successfully deployed Pervasive Data Profiler and Pervasive Data Integrator to perform off-line data integrity checks, supply its master data management requirements and automate key processes for greater supply chain efficiency. The new solution will allow DoD to incorporate data quality assessment into its automated data integration and aggregation processes. Features, such as, actionable reporting, metric-based business rules and analysis, easy-to-use user interface, a profiling engine, and sourcing options, provide foundation for greater process efficiencies.

The Pervasive solution has considerably decreased re-supply time turn around within the supply chain and minimized supply waste resulting from inaccurate data. With better and faster information, the DoD is able to get better, faster supply management intelligence and leverage that benefit within all branches of the armed forces.

This added success comes on the heels of a previous implementation of Pervasive Data Integrator to aggregate data across multiple information sources. When faced with increasing workloads and limitations in resources, logistics information experts looked for technology to meet the demand for more detailed, normalized supply data delivered faster. Project demand had been increasing in previous years by as much as ten percent per year, but no additional staff was available to help with the extra work. In addition, user requirements had also become increasingly complex. To meet these challenges, the team researched tools that could be used to do more sophisticated data transformations and process automation, and chose Pervasive Data Integrator.

The Pervasive solution provides a flexible, comprehensive suite of visual design tools for rapidly building data integration projects that interface with hundreds of data formats and applications. As a result, processes are now automated from end-to-end, giving a total-organization view for analysis and improved decision-making ability. By ‘working smarter, not harder’ with Pervasive solutions, the team has been able to absorb the ever-increasing and more complex workload with fewer resources.

“Improvements in the supply chain can have a massive and far-reaching impact on any organization – improved costs, time to delivery and responsiveness. The DoD is just one more example of how Pervasive solutions power the data infrastructure that allows government and commercial organizations alike to realize these improvements in an easy-to-use, flexible, and cost-effective way,” said Chip Harmon, general manager, Integration Products at Pervasive. “The added benefit to the DoD is improved timeliness and completeness of armed services support.”
